Anatomy Lesson
A medical memoir by Joy Cutler
How do you thank a stranger whose death saved your life?
Combining first person storytelling, inventive props, a little music making and some audience interaction, Joy Cutler tells us about inheriting a rare kidney disease, living through the perils, boredom and occasional bliss of the dialysis clinic and hitting the jackpot when the call finally came announcing a kidney was waiting for her. Anatomy Lesson is also a story about Joy’s relationship with her young donor who, in losing his life, gave her back her own. She invites us to consider how her struggle with chronic disease can be a pathway to creating connections between us all.
