Bernal Heights Suite for voice and string quartet, six movements, 20-minutes in length, first premiered with Left Coast Chamber Ensemble at the Green Room of the War Memorial Opera House and at St. Kevin’s in Bernal Heights. Lyrics are songs about Bernal Heights’ characteristics: the flora and fauna (Daikon Radish), about a stranger who paced on Godeus Alley in full military regalia (The General of Godeus), Little Lundy’s Lane about the lovely alley I lived on for 14 years beneath the founder of Firefly, a peppy Market HoeDown for Alemany Farmer’s Market, the instrumental blues Cafe Abo RIP for my fav cafe and chef/poet Whitney Haunt, a call for peace in the Middle East in Progressive Grounds (Cafe), lyrics which sadly still remain relevant 20 years later.
